Parent Involvement
Colonie Babe Ruth relies heavily on parent volunteerism to be successful. The league is small and there are lots of things that need to be done.
Many parents volunteer their time at Little League and by the time they get to Babe Ruth are plain worn out and don’t volunteer to help. The duties at Babe Ruth are much easier, as we have less teams, games and fans.
To ensure that concession runs smoothly and the park is in tip-top shape, particularly when we are hosting other leagues, Concession and Parent of the Day (POD) Assignments have been delegated among all the parents in the league. Each team provides 2 parents for concession and 1 parent for POD when they are the Home Team. In addition, each team has 1 to 2 Team Parents/Mothers that will communicate the assignments and any other necessary information among the team.
Team Parent/Mother Duties:
- Create/adjust concession and POD schedule as needed.
- Ensure that assigned parents are in concession and train as needed.
- Near end of game, remind parents to start cleaning up (if last game of the day).
- At end of game, be sure that register is closed out and umpires have been paid.
- Work with manager for any additional team communication need
Concession Duties:
- If first game of the day, start up equipment (fryers, grills, coffee, etc).
- Cook food to order as much as possible.
- If last game of the day, clean equipment, utensils, counters, floors, etc.
Parent of the Day (POD) Duties:
- At start of game, stock bathroom with toilet paper, paper towels, soap. Empty garbage as needed.
- During third inning, sell 50/50 tickets
- Keep an eye on foul balls to be sure someone is getting and returning them.
- At end of game, check garbage cans around field and empty when more than half full. If last game of the day, empty no matter what.
